Review of "The Penderwicks at Point Mouette"

Summary and Review of:

The Penderwicks at Point Mouette by Jeanne Birdsall

Written by: Ansh Singh

Summary:

It's summer once again for the Penderwicks family, but this time there's a small problem. Rosalind, for the first time, is going on a vacation away from the family for over 3 weeks! The three younger Penderwick sisters go on holiday to Point Mouette in Maine with Aunt Claire while Rosalind goes to New Jersey with her friend Anna. Rosalind plays a major role in keeping the family intact, as she has to fill in for the missing mother figure in the household. She is responsible for her younger sisters, but without her... what will happen? This is the longest the sisters have been separated and Skye, as the new OAP (Oldest Available Penderwick), has to step in and take over the responsibilities of Rosalind in order to keep everyone safe and unharmed.

Review:

The Penderwicks at Point Mouette is my favorite book so far. You can clearly see how Jeanne Birdsall's writing improves as you read through the series. This book in particular was a great read because of the sudden plot twists and the fact that everyone learns something new about themselves near the end. Readers expected an appearance of Jeffrey from the first book, but unfortunately the Mom called it off last minute. Disappointed readers don't stay disappointed, as Jeffrey does find a way to meet them and all ends good. Everyone learns something new in the end as well. Jane recognizes the troubles of love and heartbreak, Jeffery learns something new about Mr. Penderwick, Batty discovers that she loves music, and Hound (the dog) learns how to interact with other dogs. In the end, everyone meets back at Gardam Street in their lovely home to complete a happy ending.

  1. Your summary of the Penderwicks (etc...) is very intriguing and engaging! I like how you formatted it similarly to the blurb found on the back of a book, and the review of how suspense and foreshadow is used in the story is helpful.

  4. Nice review, Ansh! As Robert said, I really enjoyed how you phrased your summary to resemble a blurb on the back cover. You did a great job of phrasing it as a question not go give the whole plot away while providing the reader enough information to become intrigued!
